The Golden State Warriors have one spot remaining, and with a dry free agent market, Nick Young might be their last hope.

Let’s specify. The Golden State Warriors do not need Nick Young. However, after one season in the Bay and one ring to show for it, he could return to the beloved Warriors in hopes of winning yet another title.

Nick Young played in nearly every game last season, missing just two. Starting a handful of games as well, Young’s role on the team certainly wasn’t what he was used to. He scored just 7.3 points per game, tied for the lowest of his career.

His minutes per game were even the second lowest of his career. He ultimately was a ring, but he wasn’t a huge part of the team. The 6-foot-7, 33-year-old hadn’t had much postseason success prior to joining the Warriors.

A former first-round pick, Young might want a larger role on the team, and if signed, he should be able to have that desired role. It seems unlikely that Patrick McCaw will return to the Golden State Warriors in the near future, so instead of bringing him back, why not re-sign Nick Young?

While most analysts assume Nick Young’s tweet was about the Lakers, it might just be him noticing the Dubs situation with Patrick McCaw. Even if it is about the Lakers, for the Dubs, that shouldn’t matter.

He tweeted: “I’m right here.”

The Dubs should want to bring back Young. They have a less than desirable second unit and could use the additional shooting since their second unit is laced with player that aren’t elite shooters. Kevon Looney, Shaun Livingston, Andre Iguodala and Quinn Cook are their main second unit players.

Cook being the only sharpshooter means the Dubs could use another sniper off the bench. Young could fill that role like he did last season and potentially even have a larger role moving forward.

Unlike Los Angeles, the Dubs couldn’t pay Young much. They’re strapped financially and don’t quite have the funds to pay Young the $5+ million he made last season. Just like Cousins this season, last season might’ve been Young’s one-season stay in the Bay.

Although a great shooting team, the Dubs could use Young to enhance their second unit and help keep their starters rested. If Young wants LA but LA doesn’t want Young, might as well see if he wants to re-joint the Dubs.
