The Golden State Warriors came into the season with expectations to be the greatest team ever assembled.

With a roster stacked from top to bottom, big things are expected from the Golden State Warriors. However, through one week of play, the Warriors are ranked as the fourth best team in the league by NBA.com’s power rankings.

The Warriors come in at fourth place as the New Orleans Pelicans, Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors all land in front of them. Each of these teams has an undefeated record through week one, as the Warriors are the only one of the bunch with a loss.

Golden State’s first loss came to the second-ranked team, Denver Nuggets. Denver had a phenomenal game versus the Warriors. Garry Harris led the way with 28 points as a game-saving block from Juan Hernangomez clinched the victory for the Nuggets.

As a result, Golden State currently sits with a 2-1 record. If anything, they should be lucky to have the two wins they have. A second-half blunder nearly cost them their first game versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. Furthermore, if not for a last second tip-in by Jonas Jerebko, they would have fallen short versus the Utah Jazz.

When combining the overall play of the Warriors over their first three games, it’s understandable that they are ranked as the fourth best team. These other teams have simply looked better through the first week of the NBA season.

Now, everyone knows that the first week of the season is not a valid sample of what is to come for the remainder of the year. Teams are still finding their identity and shaking off the rust from the offseason.

Because of this, there is no reason to be worried about the Warriors. Sure, the defense has been a problem, but the offense has been as potent as ever. Stephen Curry, in particular, is looking like he is ready to set the league on fire once again.

Once the season progresses and the Dubs begin to hit their stride, it is almost certain they will climb higher on this power ranking. For now, they can use this list as motivation to improve.
