Arron Afflalo
Last but least is the veteran scoring machine, Aaron Afflalo. Afflalo, for the last few years of his career, has jumped around teams and struggled to find a permanent NBA home. Last season wasn’t the easiest for the 33-year-old shooting guard.
He played 53 games with the Orlando Magic, scoring just 3.4 points per game. Albeit he did near double figures per 36 minutes, Afflalo showed his age and just felt off all last season. He needs to be surrounded with that stardom in order to thrive again.
During Afflalo’s peak 2013-2014 season, he neared 43% from downtown. He can help the second unit with spacing while providing some leadership off the bench. It’d be terrific to see Afflalo on a winning team after being on an array of poorly functioning teams throughout his career.
Afflalo’s presence might only be used if a season-ending injury to Andre Iguodala or a similar Warrior happens. He, however, would be a solid pickup, especially if he can return to the pure scoring threat he once was.
It’d be a hard road to become an impactful player, but if given the chance, Afflalo might have the desire to travel that road. A career-high 18.2 points per game just half a decade ago, he has the skill, but is it still in there?
In the end, the Dubs might not need any of these five to thrive, but each of them would certainly add a new dimension to a struggling second unit.
