James Johnson

The first non-sharpshooter, James Johnson is an all-around athlete that can play and defend multiple positions. He’s an Andre Iguodala-type player and could useful if the Dubs ever try to part ways with Iggy and his large contract.

Even with Iggy, Johnson would be a phenomenal addition to the second unit and could play alongside Jonas Jerebko at the four or even as the Nick Young/Patrick McCaw replacement at the two.

It’s not quite known how highly Miami and Pat Riley view the versatile forward. Johnson neared 11 points per game with almost five rebounds and four assists last season. Only a handful of players could average those figures on over 50% shooting.

He’s far from a superstar, but Johnson is a type of player you want on your team. A capable scoring option, it’ll be Johnson who would help create plays for himself and take the second unit to the next level.

Signing a 4-year/$60 million deal last season, it’s almost guaranteed the Dubs would have to include Iggy. However, they might be able to get both Ellington and Johnson, two players that could light a fire under their second unit.
