Over the years, the Golden State Warriors have become known for their elite shooting ability. Thus far, this season has been no different.
The Golden State Warriors have been leading the 3-point revolution since the 2012-13 NBA season. Since then, the Dubs have been in the top 10 for total 3-pointers made in each season and have led the league in 3-point percentage four separate times.
Two-time MVP, Stephen Curry, usually receives most of the credit for the Warriors superb shooting. In the last four seasons, Curry has broken the original NBA record for most 3-pointers in a single season three times. Wildly, Steph is on pace to shatter the record once again with an unfathomable 500+ 3-pointers.
Curry is accomplishing all of this while shooting incredibly efficiently. In the 2015-16 season, Steph became the first player to shoot at least 50 percent from the field, 45 percent from the 3-point line and 90 percent from the free throw line. This season, Steph is currently improving those numbers by shooting 50.9 percent from deep.
The Warriors have already broken a few NBA 3-point records this season and we are only a few weeks in. For starters, Curry has broken the record for most 3-pointers through the first 10 games of an NBA season. Steph is sitting at a total of 59 made three’s. To put this number into perspective, the Cleveland Cavaliers have made only 60 3-pointers as an entire team.
The record-breaking doesn’t stop there. The other splash brother, Klay Thompson, became the first player to make 14 3-pointers in an NBA game in an exhibition matchup versus the Chicago Bulls. Thompson shot 14-for-24 from deep and scored 52 points in just 27 minutes of playing time.
As a team, the Warriors are shooting a league-best 41.1 percent from beyond the arc. They have made a total of 131 shots from deep which is also the highest mark in the league. A stat that makes this number so crazy is the fact that the Warriors only get 36.9 percent of their shots from the 3-point line. This places them 14th in the entire NBA. Meaning, the Warriors are shooting a much lower frequency while still making more than any other team.
It is no surprise that the Warriors are set to lead the league in every shooting statistic. Curry, Thompson and even sharpshooter Kevin Durant will be changing the landscape of the NBA for years to come. All we can do is sit back and watch it happen.
