My criteria

Now, we will go over the results of my list and rate just how accurate this generator really is. First, let’s begin by going over my ideal criteria for ranking players.

When deciding what was most important to me, I concluded that three different factors would be at the top of the charts. These factors were career points per game, efficiency and peak form. Trailing slightly behind those attributes were longevity and team success.

Championships fell to the bottom of my criteria. This is because, in my opinion, team accomplishments shouldn’t be factored in too heavily when comparing individual players. However, basketball is still a team game and rings matter. So, I left the bar at halfway for ring count.

Lastly, I slightly decreased the status of players from the 1960’s and 1970’s. This is because there are a few guys such as Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain who are complete outliers. When you look back at NBA history, these guys have accomplishments and individual stats that are unprecedented.

While I take nothing away from their incredible performances, I believe they benefited from being ahead of their time and playing in an era where the game of basketball had not yet evolved enough to determine how great they really were.
