Is Draymond Green actually the odd man out?

The Golden State Warriors will be forced to eventually get rid of one of their four 2018 All-Stars. Could that be Draymond Green and not Kevin Durant?

If you haven’t heard in the news, the Golden State Warriors have been in mayhem the last few days.

It all started with a Draymond Green rebound that occurred with about six seconds left in the fourth quarter of a tied game as the Dubs took on the Los Angeles Clippers. He pushed the ball like Green typically does. He pushed it instead of giving it to a clapping and animated Kevin Durant.

That led to an animated locker room following the overtime loss with many Warriors assuming the skirmish might’ve broken any chance that Kevin Durant returns to the Bay this offseason. However, should it be Draymond Green who is the odd man out and not Kevin Durant?

It’s also key to note that the team’s leader, Stephen Curry, who has been sidelined with a groin injury, was not on the bench or even in Los Angeles while this went down.

As for their roles, Durant is obviously the better player. He’s averaging over three times as many points and just two or three fewer rebounds and assists per game. The former MVP candidate and four-time scoring champion is easily one of the most important players in the NBA.

Should they prioritize Durant this offseason though?

Culture-wise, Green is more of a fit. He was drafted and developed by the Golden State Warriors. He wasn’t supposed to be an All-Star and the Dubs allowed him to blossom into one. That said, if Green is the problem, he’s the one that must go, but is he the problem?

The contract situation for both is a different situation though. If Durant opts to stay in the Bay, the Dubs management would be looking at a lofty luxury tax bill as Klay Thompson is also up for a new contract this offseason.

It’d be a much more heated conversation if it were Green who is up for a new contract this offseason and not Klay. Klay did let us know that once the Dubs hit a little winning streak, this will all be in the past.

Next. Should the Dubs contemplate signing Carmelo Anthony?. dark

There’s not much to worry about with the Golden State Warriors; however, if this continues, it could get ugly and lead to significant changes this offseason.
