The debate on who is the most valuable player on the Golden State Warriors should be ended. Stephen Curry is the real MVP.

Since Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors, there has been an ongoing debate on which player is more important to the team. Is it Stephen Curry, the man who got this whole show started? Or, is it Durant, the two-time Finals MVP?

Some fans and critics have even gone as far as to throw Draymond Green‘s name in the mix. The claim is that Green brings more energy to the team than anyone else and his defensive presence is the most valuable asset to the squad.

However, a recent stretch in which Curry has missed six straight games has proven what many fans have already been speculating. Stephen Curry is still the most valuable player on the Golden State Warriors.

With Curry in the lineup, the Warriors began the season with a 10-2 record. His 29.5 points per game elevated them to the second-best record in the entire league through 12 games.

Then, a groin injury sidelined Steph and halted his super play. In his absence, the team has won only two of their last six games. They have lost their last four games by an average margin of defeat of 10.5 points. This makes this stretch one of the worst they have suffered from in the last five seasons.

For the time Durant has been in Golden State, he has played a total of 44 games without Curry in the lineup. In these games, the Warriors hold a 22-22 record. In contrast,  the Dubs are 254-47 in recent years with Steph in the lineup.

That staggering statistic only further proves that Steph is the special ingredient that makes the Warriors successful. Sure, Durant may be a better overall player than Curry, but there is no question as to who is more valuable to the team.
