Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James signed a four-year contract for this reason. He wants to be able to bring in another superstar, and with Kevin Durant headlining the 2019 free agency class, there’s no reason not to go after the top target.

The Lakers should be able to offer Durant the max, and with Los Angeles already boasting a phenomenal young core, they would be able to play toe-for-toe with the Golden State Warriors who would retain their original Big 3.

This past offseason, the Lakers did two things to prepare them for a signing like this. They signed James for four, but they also signed an array of veterans to one-year deals. The Lakers only have one player (LeBron James) locked into an eight-figure salary for next season.

With only eight guaranteed contracts, not counting Luol Deng‘s stretched contract, the Lakers will have the ability to give Durant the max and sign an array of complementary veterans. This gives KD all he can ask for, but the narrative of not being able to do it alone would still linger.

Bright lights. Los Angeles. LeBron James. A max contract. What else can you hope for if you’re Durant? LA is the ultimate destination and No. 1 on our frontrunners for KD.

Ultimately, this season will be telling of where Durant chooses to play in 2020. As for now, this is how we rank the frontrunners for the worldwide icon.
