Golden State Warriors now starting center Kevon Looney had his jersey high school jersey retired, and it’s a must-watch video.

After just four starts this season, Kevon Looney matched his career high for starters in a season. He was first given the opportunity because of a season-ending injury to Damian Jones. That success and the building success of world-champion Looney earned him a jersey retirement.

For Looney, they timed their jersey retirement just right. A high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Looney and his Warriors, who are on an East Coast road trip, playing Milwaukee in the freezing cold state of Wisconsin tonight.

From Milwaukee to UCLA to the Warriors, Looney has quietly made a name for himself within the back-to-back Finals winning organization.

It also comes at a perfect time because Looney is just hitting the highest point of his career. Scoring a career-high 6.2 points per game, Looney has become more involved offensively and has gained the trust of head coach Steve Kerr.

Along with career-high averages in rebounds and assists per game, Looney, who is just 22-year-old, is looking more promising by the game. Obviously, the coaching staff likes Looney as well, starting him over youngster Jordan Bell.

Looney’s rise to relevance comes after a long stretch of hardship. He was recalled and assigned to the Warriors G-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, at least five times prior to making his presence and impact felt on the Warriors main roster.

With DeMarcus Cousins return on the horizon, it’s just a matter of time before Looney’s starting role is eventually taken from him. However,  if Cousins is put on the unproductive second unit to help boost their contributions, Looney may continue starting for the long haul.

Either way, it’s great to see Looney getting some recognition for finally getting to the big stage. He’s an elite athlete and should become quite a solid player for the Warriors. Hopefully, in a strong development system, Looney can continue to progress even further.
