Ranking the most clutch players on the Golden State Warriors
By Tony Pesta
3. Klay Thompson
When discussing Klay Thompson and the term “Clutch”, all that needs to be looked at is his performance in Game 6 of the 2016 Western Conference Finals. The Dubs had their backs to the wall, on the road, down 3-2 in the series and shouldering a heavy blow from the Oklahoma City Thunder, the season was looking all but over.
Then, Thompson happened. Klay exploded for 41 points on a record-breaking 11-for-18 shooting from the 3-point line. Thompson led a 33-to-18 fourth quarter as the Warriors won Game 6 and eventually the series.
This historic moment occurred over two years ago. How is Klay shooting in the clutch now? Well, he isn’t quite as explosive, but he is still effective. Thompson is currently shooting 10-of-26 (38.5 percent) from the field in the clutch.
This percentage is obviously low for someone as good of a shooter as Klay Thompson, but it is more an indicator of his overall struggle to shoot consistently this season in general. As a whole, Klay has been a reliable shooter in the clutch for most of his career.
