If the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Anthony Davis, it would be a win for the Golden State Warriors.
What would happen if the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Anthony Davis? If the blockbuster actually went down, how might it impact the Golden State Warriors?
While true reports have not surfaced regarding Anthony Davis and a potential trade to Los Angeles, LeBron James was recently asked what he thought of acquiring the superstar big, and his answer didn’t disappoint.
Per ESPN, James called the potential acquisition “amazing.”
"“That would be amazing,” James told ESPN on Tuesday before the Lakers’ 115-110 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, referring to the Lakers landing Davis through a trade. “That would be amazing, like, duh. That would be incredible.”"
James’ subtle hint to the front office has sparked quite a decent amount of rumors around the league. This is about the time of the season where James and his team’s management turn their sights toward the NBA Finals, trading off the unneeded pieces.
Last season, at the trade deadline, Koby Altman nearly replaced half the roster. While Magic’s first trade deadline with James won’t be near as dramatic, he could pull off this blockbuster trade, and it’d create chaos throughout the league.
Two things that would be true about a Davis to LA trade is that it would deplete a remarkable young core in LA. Secondly, it would kill the team’s cap space for this upcoming summer while also allowing them their second superstar for LeBron James.
First off, if Durant is not able to join the Lakers, he’ll likely take a pay cut and stay in Golden State another season. While LA would then become a true threat to the Dubs’ throne, it’s almost more important that they would eliminate themselves from contention for Durant.
Dealing a few young, talented players would also help elongate the Warriors dynasty. If Kuzma, Ingram and others aren’t able to run alongside LeBron, it might hurt the Lakers much more than they expect, and in any trade for Davis, I’d expect Ingram or Kuzma along with potentially Lonzo Ball.
At what cost would Anthony Davis be brought to LA for. At the end of the day, that’s the true question.
