Golden State Warriors: 5 reasons the Dubs should consider trading Draymond Green
He stagnates the offense
It was crystal clear against the Lakers that Draymond Green has turned from an elite offensive distributor to one that kills the offensive flow. How’s that? Well, it all starts with his abominable three-point shooting.
Against the Lakers, Draymond shot 2-for-7 from the field and 0-for-3 from downtown. He totaled more fouls than points, assists and rebounds (separately). His -15 was the worst of any Warriors’ starter. While that might not show his complete offensive impact, these pictures sure do.
In all four of these plays, the Lakers chose not to rush out on Green. In fact, during this game, they chose not to guard him at all. This has been happening all season long, but the Lakers and other teams have taken it to a new level recently.
Here’s a video from the Dubs game against the Lakers that is actually cringe-worthy.
This season, Green is shooting almost 35% of his shots without a defender within six feet of him. Over 30% of his threes come without a defender even close, and on those attempts (2.2 per game), Green is shooting under 24%.
That’s a problem.
Green is continuing to be disrespected from behind the arc, and it hurts the Warriors’ offense. They can then double Curry and Durant off screens and limit the Warriors flow.
That said, his offensive weakness might be the main reason to potentially trade the star, but it’s not the only one.
