Golden State Warriors: 3 reasons not to match Patrick McCaw’s offer sheet

The Golden State Warriors can match the 2-year, $6 million offer given to Patrick McCaw by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but should they?

Patrick McCaw was adamant about getting out of the Bay when the Golden State Warriors refused to pay what he valued himself it. Holding out yet still restricted, McCaw was waiting to be offered a contract that he’d accept and the Dubs wouldn’t.

The contract was first reported by none other than ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. He came back and later reported that McCaw’s offer sheet is a non-guaranteed contract. That means, the Warriors can waive him if they please, but they’d then be releasing his restricted tag.

McCaw will be entering his third season in the NBA. His first two, he averaged a mere four points per game. Not an elite three-point shooter, there isn’t too much McCaw does do well. However, at 23-years-old, he does have arguably the highest upside on the Warriors.

The former UNLV standout was waiting for a team like Cleveland to come along. He knows the Warriors aren’t looking to retain him for more than one seasons, and that the second-year on any contract would be his out.

The struggling Warriors have several good reasons not to match the offer sheet that was proposed to McCaw. That said, let’s take a deeper dive into three reasons why the Dubs shouldn’t bring McCaw back.
