Denver Nuggets waive former Warriors’ sharpshooter Nick Young
The Denver Nuggets have waived the Golden State Warriors former sharpshooter Nick Young.
Young, who was the Golden State Warriors main shooting option off the bench last season, played just a handful of games for the Denver Nuggets. Young averaged 2.3 points per game for Denver in a mere four games.
The waiving comes as Nuggets starting shooting guard Gary Harris is set to return. That’s likely not the reason for getting rid of the 12-year veteran. Young apparently didn’t fit the Mile High culture.
Not quite given a great opportunity, Young could be picked up off the waivers by several teams needing playmaking. The Rockets and Lakers both might be interested in Young’s abilities especially given how well he shoots from behind the arc.
With the Nuggets for just 20 days, Young posted just nine points, only scoring off three-point field goal attempts. Nine points and nine shots in four games was all Young was alotted with the Nuggets.
A top-three team in the West, Denver boasts an unselfish playstyle, something that Young might not have vibed with. However, four games seem like an awfully short period for a player newly signed to a team.
Young will again be a free agent. The Golden State Warriors, who had Young on their roster last season, should target Young. They could use the additional playmaking off the bench, having one of the league’s worst scoring second units.
Last season, Young averaged 7.3 points per game, playing 80 of the Dubs regular season matchups. He was a non-factor during the postseason, but Young was a consistent threat, showcasing why any team should be willing to take a chance on him.
With a bottom-three scoring bench and a bottom-ten three-point shooting bench, the Warriors could use Young. Will he sign the veteran’s minimum to snag the Dubs’ last roster spot though? That’s the looming question.
It’ll be interesting to see where Young goes when he clears waivers.
