The Golden State Warriors offense has taken a noticeable decline this year and it could be because of how opposing teams are beginning to guard them.

In the past, the Golden State Warriors held the most feared offense in the league. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were capable of running teams out of the gym and the addition of Kevin Durant felt like overkill.

The 2014-15 season marked the first time the Warriors led the league in scoring in over seven years. Riding the wave of Currys first MVP run, the Dubs scored an average of 110.0 points per game. Overall, the squad had a total of five different players scoring in double figures.

From this point on, Golden State began their four-year reign over the league. A championship in 2015 was followed up in the next season with 73 wins and another Finals appearance. Of course, the Dubs once again led the league in scoring at 114.9 points per game.

After adding Kevin Durant, the team averaged their highest scoring mark of the decade with 115.9 points a night. The Warriors won the 2017 championship and went on to lead the league in scoring next season en route to their second straight title.

For four consecutive seasons, the Warriors led the league in scoring. In each of these runs, the Dubs had at least four different players averaging double-digit points.

Now, the Warriors score just the fourth most points in the league and are relying on just three players to score above 10 points each game. But, their problems run much deeper than it appears on the surface. Today, we discuss why the Warriors have been playing 3-on-5 offensively this season.
