Alfonzo McKinnie

Multiple factors were at play in the decision to not match the Cavs’ offer for McCaw, and one of them was the pleasant performance of Alfonzo McKinnie in his absence. The Warriors pride themselves on “light years” moves in which they find a gem in an overlooked or undervalued player. They usually find them through the draft, or through undrafted free agent signings.

McKinnie has been a great story for Golden State and more importantly, he’s done exactly what the Warriors need from a type of player like him. His wingspan is greatly utilized as he consistently looks for getting rebounds, and he has the confidence to shoot when he needs to with the ball in his hands.

He also provides solid effort on the defensive end, all in all exactly what Golden State Warriors had hoped they’d get from McCaw in the years to come. Golden State is expected to guarantee McKinnie’s contract come January, and his role and play have warranted that decision.
