How has the Golden State Warriors’ youth movement fared so far?
Kevon Looney
Probably the most promising of the Warriors’ youth movement and the more polished of the young bigs on the roster, Kevon Looney has continued his improved play and turnaround from last season. After his potential was a question mark in his rookie season, a year ago Looney worked on his game and established himself as a permanent role player on the roster.
This season with the injury to Jones, Bell’s slump and the rehab of DeMarcus Cousins, Looney has proven to be the best center on the roster and currently has a solid hold on the starting center position. Lately, he’s also been experimenting with his outside shot, connecting on a three-pointer in their latest win against the Trail Blazers.
Similar to Bell, Looney also faces free agency this coming summer, though he’ll be an unrestricted free agent instead. Looney has shown the most promise of the young bigs but his contract situation remains uncertain as the Warriors consider the future. Looney opted to return to Golden State this season, but should he get another richer contract offer elsewhere it could be a real possibility that he departs for another franchise.
