Rookie sensation Luke Doncic is currently above both Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant as the All-Star first fan returns have been released.

The Golden State Warriors have been mediocre by their standards, and it’s manifested itself in the All-Star voting as Luka Doncic sits ahead of Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson. Doncic has been a sensation, but he far producing Kevin Durant-like numbers.

In the NBA’s first voting returns, Doncic totaled 679,839 votes, placing second in the Western Conference frontcourt. He’s only beating out by LeBron James. Overall, he’s behind Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Derrick Rose, Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

LeBron James leads the pack with 1,083,363 votes.

Much like Derrick Rose, Doncic has been racking up votes due to his pure stardom. Fans and analysts have loved what he’s been doing in Dallas. Even Draymond Green praised Doncic following the Warriors-Mavs matchup.

Production-wise, Doncic doesn’t near Kevin Durant. He does, however, stack favorably with Klay Thompson. Doncic has averaged 19.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game which includes 2.4 threes per game.

The four-time All-Star Thompson doesn’t quite compare to Doncic, partially due to the rookie’s usage in Dallas. Thompson is averaging 21.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals with 2.5 threes per game.

While both are All-Star caliber talents, fans shouldn’t be in shock to see Klay behind Doncic. Doncic has been better than Klay.

Now Durant behind Doncic is just an insult to Kevin Durant.

Durant is putting up over 28 points, six rebounds and six assists per game. He’s efficient and dominant on the league’s most talented roster. Durant is a viable MVP candidate, and his votes should reflect such.

It’s really not a great look for those claiming to be fans of Durant. He’s obviously been getting no love. Let’s just be thankful that these fan votes are just that: fans voting. It’s not smart to claim Doncic as a more deserving All-Star than Durant.
