5 rim protectors the Golden State Warriors should trade for
Robin Lopez
Kind of a last ditch effort, if Robin Lopez is bought out, it’s possibly the Golden State Warriors try to scoop him up. They could trade for him, but it seems unlikely given the over $14 million due to him this season. However, his contract is expiring.
Although RoLo, as Lopez is often called, has seen his scoring cut in half. The 7-footer with over ten years of experience has struggled mightily this season. Being on one of the East’s worst teams certainly doesn’t help either.
Besides being a capable shot blocker, Lopez also could bring Golden State an expiring contract. That could be a bigger deal than many realize. Andre Iguodala, who is owed over $17 million next season, might hinder the Dubs from re-signing Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.
Lopez could increase the team’s rebounding, help protect the paint and set them up well for the future. While his numbers have been less than ideal, 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game, those three intangibles may make him a target for the Dubs.
Bringing Lopez to the Bay wouldn’t be a terrible decision for Golden State, but he shouldn’t and won’t be a main target this trade deadline.
