The Miami side of the deal

The Miami Heat are the side of the four-time deal. They would be sending away Dion Waiters, a first-round pick and Wayne Ellington for Draymond Green. Waiters and Ellington are important players for Miami, but they’re not game-changing or high-impact talents.

Miami has a ton of players like Goran Dragic, Josh Richardson and James Johnson that can cover their lost production. Secondly, the Heat could create one of the league’s most formidable defensive lineups with Green, Hassan Whiteside and Johnson in the frontcourt.

Perennially the Heat are at the top of the Eastern Conference, and currently sitting No. 6, Miami needs one more piece to at least contend in the East. In the bottom half of the league in assists, Green would help the Heat’s offense become more fluid.

While Green has seen his better days, the four-time All-Star continues to be impactful on both the offensive and defense. Tack on the fact that he’s locked up until at least the end of next season,  and it seems like a much more solid swap.

It’s also likely that the pick being dealt wouldn’t be a lottery pick either, making the trade even better for Miami.
