The Golden State Warriors star shooting guard Klay Thompson is a free agent this summer and reportedly expected to stay with the Dubs.

On an expiring contract, no one 100% knows where the four-time All-Star shooting guard is headed, but per The Athletic’s Ethan Strauss, the expectation is that Klay Thompson says with the Golden State Warriors.

"While Thompson has indicated an interest in remaining a “Warrior for life,” his return cannot just be taken for granted. Still, the expectation within and outside the Warriors is that Klay isn’t leaving. This is why you don’t hear about any team besides the Lakers gearing up for the Summer of Klay.”"

It’s great news to hear that Klay is planning to come back to the Bay, but for now, it’s not confirmed. Nothing official has been reached; meaning, there’s still a chance the star guard heads elsewhere.

Thompson has been pivotal to the Golden State Warriors dynasty. Averaging over 20 points per game for five consecutive seasons, Thompson, a lottery pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, has taken his game to the next level.

Regarded as one of the league’s best two-way players, Thompson is one of the players that keeps this dynasty alive. While this season has seen the star struggle mightily, he’s still found ways to bounce back and even posted a 50-point game earlier this season.

The key to Thompson’s game that makes him such a perfect addition is his ability to score without possessing the ball for long. He’s a dominant catch-and-shoot player and that’s exactly what the Warriors need with two ball-dominant superstars in Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry.

Thompson and the Warriors seem on the same page about his next contract. A max for Thompson might cause a rift in the system as the Warriors wouldn’t be able to give superstar forward Kevin Durant the same, potentially sending him elsewhere.

Where the money goes will really determine the pathway for the Golden State for the next half a decade. 28, Thompson still has several more years in his prime. Thompson, like Green, has been here since the beginning and deserves to be paid like it.
