The Golden State Warriors are on track to win their third straight NBA championship. But, should they be looking to build their future as well?

For the last four seasons, the Golden State Warriors have been NBA royalty. With four consecutive trips to the NBA finals and three championships in four seasons, the Dubs are looking to win their third straight title this year. However, with the trade deadline approaching, should the team look to acquire a few draft picks?

Right now, the Warriors are experiencing more success than any other team has seen this decade. With most of their core players playing in their prime seasons, there is no reason to assume that their reign will come to an end any time soon. Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and DeMarcus Cousins are all under the age of 31.

Furthermore, it appears like the front office won’t have to worry about any of their star players leaving in free agency. Curry seems like he will be a Warrior for life while Thompson and Cousins have expressed interest in signing long term. Durant’s future may be a little more shakey, but it still feels likely that he will stay for at least a few more seasons.

So, if the Warriors are so prepared to compete in the present day as well as the next couple of years, do they really need to make any trades? I mean, why risk throwing off any of the team’s chemistry in order to stockpile draft picks that they might not even need?

Currently, the Warriors have first round draft picks in each of the next seven NBA drafts. Clearly, they won’t be struggling to build their future in the event that their dynasty falls apart drastically.

With this being said, there is no real urgency to make any moves for draft picks. The Dubs have already managed to build a championship contending team while holding on to the security of their future.
