Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry re-entering the MVP race
By Tony Pesta
Stephen Curry started the season off hot for the Golden State Warriors and now he is picking up back where he left off.
Stephen Curry is no stranger to MVP seasons. The two-time MVP changed the game with his efficient scoring and playmaking. The 2018-19 season is shaping up to be more of the same for Curry as he is now re-entering his name into the award conversation.
Curry began the season scorching hot. Through the first nine games of the year, Steph was averaging 33 points per game on an absurd 52.9 percent shooting from the 3-point line. He led the Dubs to a nearly perfect 8-1 record and was shattering expectations.
Unfortunately, Curry’s run was cut short by an injury that caused him 11 consecutive games. During this time, the Warriors struggled without their leader.
Since he came back, Curry and the Dubs have slowly been returning to form. A recent stretch of dominance from Steph has helped push the Warriors to a seven-game winning streak. Over the course of these seven games, Curry is averaging 33.1 points, 5.7 assists and 5.6 rebounds a game.
His shooting, as usual, has been by far the most impressive aspect of his game. He has hit eight or more 3-pointers in four of his last seven games and is averaging 7 made 3-point field goals a game.
This run from Curry is one of the most impressive streaks of his career. In fact, it was the first time in his entire career that Curry had three-consecutive games of 8 or more 3-pointers. In these three games, Steph averaged 40 points on 57.1 percent shooting from the 3-point line.
As a result of this burst from Steph, the Warriors now hold the best record in the Western Conference and are one game away from being the most winningest team in the league. If this streak continues from Curry and the Dubs end the season with the leagues best record, what is holding Steph back from becoming a three-time MVP?
