Stephen Curry is representing the Golden State Warriors in front of his home-town for the All-Star Game. Could he walk away with the MVP honors?

As the NBA announced the 2019 NBA All-Star Game starters the Golden State Warriors will once again be represented by their cornerstone and franchise point guard Stephen Curry.

This will be Curry’s sixth NBA All-Star Game appearance, and chances are this year’s game will mean a little more to the two-time MVP.

In contrast to his five previous All-Star Game appearances, the 2019 version of pitting the best of the East and West will be hosted by the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte happens to not only be the home of the Hornets, but also the home in which Stephen Curry was raised for the larger portion of his upbringing.

Steph’s father Dell Curry also played a majority of his years (perhaps some of his best years) in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets, so Steph regularly witnessed his father drill shots from behind the arc in those classic teal and striped Hornets jerseys.

It’s no coincidence that both Stephen Curry and his brother Seth were recently invited to the three-point shoot-out: the NBA (and the Curry brothers as well) wouldn’t miss the chance to participate in the All-Star festivities while making it a family affair in front of their hometown.

For this exact reason, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if we witness Stephen Curry hoisting the All-Star Game MVP award at the conclusion of the game. Curry has been on an absolute tear so far this regular season: averaging 29.5 ppg while hitting the 50-40-90 mark once again in FG%, 3P%, and FT% respectively.

A regular season MVP might be out of reach, though he definitely has put himself in the conversation.

An All-Star Game MVP on the other hand? Now that is a legitimate possibility. It’s not an imperative piece of hardware when looking back on the basketball greats, but adding it to his collection could be extra meaningful if it came in front of his hometown.

In his previous five All-Star Game appearances Curry has averaged just around 17 ppg.

As is well-known, if you want to come away with the game MVP hardware, you have to fill up the stat sheet and more often than not place an extra emphasis on the points. Steph is more than capable of doing just that, as we’ve seen so often in this regular season.

During All-Star games, however, Curry seems to instead embrace the moment as opposed to focusing on his individual performance. Very characteristic of the Warriors’ franchise MVP, yet there’s a good possibility that’ll change come All-Star Weekend in Charlotte.

Curry knows this might be one of the few moments where he really gets to put on a show in front of his hometown, and he’s smart enough to not let the moment go to waste.
