DeMarcus Cousins has almost embraced the role as the villain on any team. But, there’s another side to this apparently angry giant.

DeMarcus Cousins gets angry with people on the court, he gets angry with reporters in the locker room, he gets in foul trouble a lot, he gets technicals and flagrants – but is the player Boogie synonymous with the person DeMarcus?

Absolutely not! Boogie Cousins has been labeled a bully for a long time now, while DeMarcus lives a quiet life in private.

Lately Cousins has been building his bad boy “you won’t like me” image with some tweets. “You ain’t gotta love me baby” and “Da scandalous homie”. He seems to embrace his role and built his image upon it, but off court, Boogie ain’t the Bogeyman.

Cousins is also very well talked about by his teammates. Genuine, real, funny, honest are merely some of the adjectives he is showered with. DeMarcus Cousins is extremely well-liked in the Golden State Warriors locker room.

So, isn’t it time to set the loving and charming DeMarcus free?

Well, maybe he’s sticking to his on-court personality. He has seemed to like scaring people over the years and being a nice and loving guy isn’t the best brand when you’re struggling under the rim.

So, Cousins protects his on-court persona, but a situation from a few days ago adds to the Jekyll and Hyde myth surrounding Cousins.

On his way out of Capitol One Arena after beating the Wizards, Cousins ran through the tunnel – last man out after the on-court interview. Suddenly, he stopped and turned around.

His eyes fell on a couple of kids with jerseys to be signed. Cousins first ran by them but stopped and turned back. He took his time signing and giving high fives.

Repeatedly these high-profile NBA players run off the court giving fans the possibility of a high five at best. It’s very rare they stop and take their time. But, Boogie did the other day.

Cousins has told reporters that he was surprised with the amount of hate he got from social media. Going to the Warriors generates fan reactions! He was obviously hurt! But, still, he dug deep and gave some kids a special treatment.

Boogie may embrace the role of the villain to protect himself – but fans who dig deeper than just social media will know, that Cousin has a heart of gold.
