The Golden State Warriors are at risk of losing Klay Thompson this offseason.

If the Golden State Warriors want to retain their Splash Brother Klay Thompson, the team would need to offer Thompson a max contract, otherwise, he would be interested in joining the Los Angeles Lakers. This was reported on SportsCenter by Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Warriors have the most interesting, and crucial summer coming in franchise history. Kevin Durant will be a free agent. DeMarcus Cousins will be a free agent. So will Thompson. Who will stay, where will the money go?

This is the summer the team has prepared for. This is also why a lot of people are considering this to be the last year of the great ride this Warriors team is on.

With so many teams going to be having cap space this summer, the Warriors are in serious jeopardy of getting broken up. Especially if the Lakers acquire Anthony Davis in a trade, you can guarantee that the Lakers would be the frontrunner to sign Thompson this summer.

Is there always a chance that Thompson will just re-sign with the team? Absolutely. He seemingly loves the Bay Area, and being drafted a Warrior, Thompson’s only NBA home has been Golden State.

The team should max out Thompson, it should be a no brainer. Thompson is one of the most gifted scorers of all-time. However, they also have to consider giving Kevin Durant a max contract, a difficult decision to make.

With free agency six months from now, there will be a lot of rumors surrounding Thompson and also Durant’s future with the Warriors. The situation regarding Anthony Davis and his destination will also be a huge factor in Thompson’s offseason plans.

The Golden State Warriors should and likely will do whatever it takes to retain the four-time All-Star guard.
