Wesley Matthews could potentially be bought out soon, meaning the Golden State Warriors might have a chance to sign him. Here is how Matthews would benefit the team.

Wesley Matthews was once one of the leagues best up-and-coming players. Matthews quickly showed skill as a 3-point shooter with elite perimeter defense. While an Achilles injury has changed the trajectory of his career, Matthews could still help the Golden State Warriors immensely.

The Dallas Mavericks recently shipped Matthews to the New York Knicks in a trade that involved many other assets as well as a young superstar, Kristaps Porzingis. The Knicks are reportedly putting Matthews on the trading block but many teams are hoping that he ends up on the buyout market.

In the event that Matthews does become a free agent, the Warriors are amongst a few other championships contending teams that are looking to acquire Matthews.

He may not be the same rising star he was in Portland, but Matthews is still capable of being a productive player. This season, Matthews is scoring 12.4 points per game on 37.4 percent shooting from the 3-point line.

Wesley can still score at an efficient rate. Being in a bench role for the Warriors would likely be a great place for Matthews as there would be less pressure on him to score.

Where Matthews will really come in handy is his defensive abilities. In spurts, Matthews can be a lockdown perimeter defender. This is exactly the type of help that the Warriors need. As a whole, the Dubs defense has not been as dominant as it used to be. Because of this, adding some extra defensive help is a must before the playoffs start.

Matthews will bring a positive impact to both ends of the basketball. If the Dubs get a chance at signing Matthews they should absolutely jump on the opportunity.
