Draymond Green: Golden State Warriors ‘possibly’ could’ve won without Kevin Durant
Draymond Green joined the Pull Up, a podcast featuring CJ McCollum, and said that the Golden State Warriors could’ve ‘possibly’ won without Kevin Durant.
Now in their third season together, the Golden State Warriors have won two back-to-back championships behind a Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green core.
The Warriors Green, Thompson and Curry core had been together for quite a while before the addition of Kevin Durant. However, after the historic 2016 NBA Finals comeback by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Durant opted to join the Warriors, creating one of the league’s all-time best rosters.
Draymond Green went on CJ McCollum’s Pull Up podcast and discussed several things, one of which was how lucky the team was to have added Durant.
Green said if the Dubs would’ve won that 2016 championship that they “probably don’t get Kevin Durant.” He then says that if the Dubs don’t get Kevin Durant that they could’ve “possibly” kept their dynasty alive.
The Warriors are one of the league’s all-time great dynasties. They’ve been to four straight Finals, winning three of their four trips. They’re looking at their fifth straight Finals run. That said, who knows what the NBA would’ve looked like without Durant on their roster.
Let’s not act like it would’ve been the end of the world if the Warriors didn’t acquire Durant. The Dubs 2015-2016 roster, the year prior to Durant’s addition, was a historically great team, winning a league-record 73 games.
Green also attributes much of the Dubs success to their work ethic. The Warriors “year-in and year-out” work ethic is what Green calls an “underrated” part of the Dubs dynamic, league-altering dynasty.
One of the league’s best all-around players, Green has found his success in his defensive tenacity and offensive unselfishness. That’s one part of the Warriors success.
That said, let’s hope the Warriors dynasty continues with Durant and Curry captaining the ship.
