SG, Wesley Matthews

Per the New York Times’ Marc Stein, the Warriors have interest in Wesley Matthews, the only player the team has reportedly had interest in outside of the already-traded Rodney Hood. The interest in Matthews has given fans a roadmap to who the Dubs might trade for.

More from Blue Man Hoop

Matthews is on an expiring contract worth over $18 million. The Warriors might not consider trading for Mattews, rather seeking to sign the 32-year-old if he’s bought out. If they do opt to trade for him, Andre Iguodala would also automatically be included in any deal.

However, for Golden State, they may find the benefit in trade away Iguodala. While a respectable contributor, Iggy is owed over $17 million next season. Iggy takes up too much cap space for Golden State to sign both Thompson and Durant to a max.

Matthews replaces much of Iguodala’s production. He can shoot, averaging 2.2 threes per game for his career. He’s a remarkable defender, and he knows his role. Those are all attractable traits, making Matthews a top trade target.

Averaging 12.9 points per game, Matthews addition would be a smart move for the Golden State Warriors.
