The Los Angeles Clippers waived Marcin Gortat, and he has interest in signing with the Golden State Warriors, per Yahoo’s Chris Haynes.

On a chaotic trade deadline day, the Golden State Warriors have remained quiet. However, the recently-waived Marcin Gortat has an interest in signing with the two-time defending champs. Per Chris Haynes, the Dubs plan to wait the chaos out.

There could be numerous players on the buyout market in the next few weeks. Wesley Matthews or a backup shooting guard has been the Golden State Warriors obvious target. They’ve had reported interest in Matthews and Rodney Hood.

With one roster spot remaining, it’d be odd to see the Dubs target Gortat. His experience and touch around the rim could be helpful, but it doesn’t seem like a perfect fit, especially given how fond Steve Kerr is of Kevon Looney.

Gortat is 34-years-old. The aging center has been on an array of teams has yet to truly find success. His latest stint with the Clippers was by far his worst season in over a decade. Gortat is scoring just 5.0 points per game, tacking on 5.6 rebounds per game as well.

Shooting over 50%, Gortat can be effective, but it’s more about what he doesn’t do for Golden State. He doesn’t protect the rim well and he doesn’t spread the floor either. Those two should be huge for Golden State when considering signing the veteran.

Additionally, the Golden State frontcourt has been so loaded that second-year player Jordan Bell can’t even get minutes. It should be the Warriors desire to get Bell more minutes before signing another center.

However, when a player with the experience and desire to win that Gortat has is interested in signing AND you have an open roster spot, why not take chance on him? The Warriors don’t need more frontcourt depth, but at this point, why not bring him on?
