There has been a growing belief that Kevin Durant could leave the Golden State Warriors to join the New York Knicks. Here is why that won’t happen.

The Golden State Warriors have reportedly been preparing for the possibility that Kevin Durant could be leaving to join the New York Knicks. While it is certainly possible, there are a few solid reasons as to why this will not happen.

First, let’s examine why these rumors exist in the first place. For the last decade, it seems like the Knicks have been in talks with All-Star free agents every year. Despite this, they have failed to sign any significant player outside of Amare Stoudemire, who didn’t pan out very well.

This season, the Knicks once again are talking about the pipedreams of signing superstars in the Summer. However, this time, they have the required cap space and a decent young core in place to attract free agents.

This opens up the opportunity for two max contract players to join the Knicks. With a loaded free agency class stacked with names such as Durant, Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson, this could finally be the year that the Knicks turn their dreams to reality.

Even with the cap space and potential of being home to a championship contending team, I do not believe Durant will end up in New York. For starters, there has been no solid evidence to prove that Durant is even considering the Knicks in free agency.

Furthermore, it would take at least one other All-Star caliber player to join the Knicks this Summer if Durant wants any chance of winning an NBA championship. However, even that might not be enough because the rest of the Eastern Conference has been growing stronger and stronger.

On top of all of this, New York is notorious for its hostile media attacks. Players in New York are constantly in the hot seat, being hounded and questioned by local media. This is something that sounds like a nightmare for a player like Kevin Durant who has a hard enough time dealing with the tame reporting of the Bay Area.

When you add all of these factors together, it’s rather unlikely Durant will join the Knicks. The Warriors can provide a better home in nearly every way. Because of this, KD will not be heading to New York.
