Rookie of the Year: Luka Doncic

Honorable Mentions: Trae Young, Deandre Ayton, Collin Sexton, Marvin Bagley

This is one of the only awards this season that has been a runaway race. Luka Doncic has taken the league by storm and is having a historic rookie season.

Heading into his rookie campaign, there were doubts that Doncic would translate to the NBA game. Even though he was a star in the EuroLeague, many believed that he lacked the athleticism and speed necessary to be an effective player in the big leagues.

It didn’t take long for Doncic to debunk all of the myths that he was “too slow” as he got off to a hot start and hasn’t looked back. Currently, Luka is on pace to become just the second player in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in his rookie season. Oscar Robertson is the only other player to achieve this.

As the season continues, there is no doubt that Doncic will grow more confident on the court as he grows with his team. Dallas is fighting for a spot in the playoffs and I think securing a place in the postseason would solidify Doncic as the Rookie of the Year.
