Wayne Ellington

The Warriors should’ve target Wayne Ellington prior to the trade deadline. The sharpshooter was traded from the Heat to the Suns. After being almost immediately waived by the Suns, Ellington signed with the Detroit Pistons.

More from Blue Man Hoop

This upcoming offseason, Ellington will be a free agent.

31, Ellington may not get too many offers. He’ll likely only be targeted by potential playoff teams and teams in need of additional shooting. The Warriors, who may only offer him the veteran’s minimum, could use his skill set.

The current Warriors roster lacks second unit scoring. Without a true backup shooting guard, the Dubs should fill that void with Ellington. Since it’s highly likely the Warriors retain Klay Thompson, the need for that backup position will still be prominent.

Averaging 10.2 points and 2.8 threes per game with the Pistons, Ellington is proving that he’s still a capable sniper. One of the top three-point shooting teams for the past half a decade, the Warriors, whose bench ranks 29th in threes per game, need the help.

A cheap and specialized option, Wayne Ellington would be a great addition for the Dubs.
