The Warriors have been of the league’s worst teams since the All-Star break
The Golden State Warriors have been one of the NBA’s worst teams since the All-Star break, not an encouraging site for their loyal fanbase.
While just about every fan and analyst believe they’ll turn it around, the Golden State Warriors have been a sub-.500 team since the All-Star break. Through nine games, they’ve lost five, including one 33-point loss to Boston.
Since the break, they’ve looked awful. It’s been even more obvious that this team is extremely top heavy, and some night, it really hurts their effectiveness. If Curry, Thompson and Durant all have off nights, it’s almost impossible for Golden State to win.
The Warriors join the Hawks and Wizards as the only teams that are 4-5 since the break.
For the Warriors, it’s been Stephen Curry whose play has been significantly worse since the break. He’s averaging under 25 points per game on under 42% from the field. Both of these were significantly higher during the first part of the season.
However, at large, the Warriors bench is still one of the league’s worst. Since their only addition was center Andrew Bogut, it’s unlikely they receive more production from their lacking second unit.
Since the break, there hasn’t been a single bench player that’s seen time in multiple games score over six points per game. While that’s not too shocking for diehard fans to believe, it is not a recipe for success when the team will likely play their fifth straight season of around 100 games.
That said, the Dubs overall efficiency has also taken a hit over their last nine games. While they still average the league’s highest points per game, they’ve not even been in the top ten since the All-Star break.
Curry’s production and a lack of bench help are both concerning, but it’s the teams that Golden State has been losing to that is the most concerning aspect of their recent struggles. Phoenix, Miami, and Orlando were three games the Dubs should’ve won.
They also played and lost to Boston by 33 points and Houston by six. This team must find a way to snap out of their slump. How can they do that?
With games against the Rockets and Thunder both away from Oracle, the Dubs can rejuvenate their roster and prepare for a postseason run by taking down the West’s two best teams not named Golden State.
That’s how they do. That’s how they get back on track. They must down Houston and Oklahoma City to give their fans the rest and reassurance they need.
