While Klay Thompson was 4-for-9 from deep, the Warriors’ star shooting guard recorded his second-worst two-point shooting night of the season.

Klay Thompson was visibly frustrated with their his performance, the Golden State Warriors’ performance as a whole, or some type of combination of the two. The five-time All-Star went 5-for-18 from the field and just 1-for-9 from two-point range.

Thomspon did tally five rebounds and five assists as well, both average his corresponding season average. He was a -10 for the game which was the second-worst among the Warrior starters, only better than Durant who tallied a -11 for the six-point loss to San Antonio.

Against the Spurs, Thomspon seemed rattled.

He wasn’t his typical self, and while that might’ve been due to a red-hot Spurs team applying pressure on the Warriors’ shooter or other issues within the flow of the game, Thompson ended the game with one of his worst outings of the season.

From two-point range, this was his second-worst performance of the season. His worst was against the Portland Trail Blazers where he missed all nine of his two-point attempts. They lost that game by 22.

Obviously, there’s a consistent trend. When Thompson plays poorly, the Warriors as a whole aren’t quite as dominant. They lost to a Spurs team that’s currently fifth in the West, and just a few additional buckets from Klay could’ve turned that into their third straight victory.

After two strong performances, Thompson was primed to have another phenomenal outing. However, he never got going early, and according to calculations by Nylon Calculus, Klay is significantly worse when he’s ‘cold’ and when he’s ‘hot.’

All this proves is that the Warriors need to get Klay going.

They need the scoring of Thompson, recording eight wins in the sniper’s ten 30-point games. At the same time, the Warriors and their two stars need to make it a priority to get Thompson going. He doesn’t typically go out and get his own buckets, although he certainly could.

It must be the Golden State Warriors’ priority to get Klay the ball early and often over the next few games.
