3. 2015 NBA Finals: Warriors end the championship drought

Since moving to the bay area, the Golden State Warriors had won only one championship, their only title coming in the 1970s. This means that for nearly 50 years, the Dubs had gone without winning a single title.

Not only did the Warriors go through a long and rough title drought, but they had seen little playoff success during this run as well. For a 20 year stretch, the Warriors had made only three playoff appearances and hadn’t even reached the conference finals.

So, when Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson burst onto the scene as the “Splash Brothers” it was a wonderful sight to see. The Golden State fan base was ecstatic to be elite again and thus the Oracle Arena became the league’s loudest arenas.

Due to the rise of Curry, who was named the 2014-15 NBA MVP, the Dubs coursed through the Western Conference and advanced to the NBA Finals. While all eyes were on the splash brothers, there was a different player that was going to step up and be the hero.

Andre Iguodala came off the bench and changed the entire direction of the series. While LeBron James was putting up historic numbers, Iggy was doing an outstanding job at minimizing James. Furthermore, Iggy became a spark plug on offense that helped support the Dubs during dry spells offensively.

By the end of the series, Iguodala was averaging 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals and held James to below 40 percent shooting from the field. This was enough to win the series and crown Iggy as the Finals MVP.
