Comeback Player of the Year

Did we make up the next two awards? Maybe. But, DeMarcus Cousins and the comeback he’s made certainly needs to be on our award list somewhere. Cousins gets Blue Man Hoop’s Comeback Player of the Year award.

Last season, Cousins, the starting center for the New Orleans Pelicans, secured a late-game rebound against the Houston Rockets. He then tumbled his way to the court, grimacing in pain, and every fan in the arena knew the prognosis wasn’t going to be good.

Cousins,  who ruptured his Achilles tendon, required a great amount of physical therapy and rehab before making his return to the NBA. That’s one reason the superstar chose Golden State. He had that time to recover and knew he’d be coming into a winning atmosphere.

For Cousins, he took the Warriors from a championship-winning team to arguably the best team ever assembled. As you’d expect, Cousins numbers have taken a hit. He’s scoring just over 16 points per game, down six from his average last season.

However, he’s found a home. He’s thrived in the Bay. With two 25-plus-point performances against Houston and Denver, Cousins has been a factor in some of the Warriors biggest games this season.

For that reason and his dedication to making the return possible, Cousins wins our Comeback Player of the Year.
