Warriors Report: DeMarcus Cousins likely out for the remainder of the postseason
The Golden State Warriors big man DeMarcus Cousins is out for the remainder of the postseason after sustaining a quad injury in Game 2.
After seeing his first ever postseason action in Game 1, the Golden State Warriors star center DeMarcus Cousins hobbled off the court in Game 2, just minutes into action. He will now miss the rest of the postseason with a quad injury.
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes, there’s “faint optimism” surrounding Cousins return.
"Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins is expected to miss the remainder of the postseason with a significant left quadriceps injury, but there’s faint optimism that he could possibly return for the NBA Finals, league sources told Yahoo Sports."
After signing for just over $5 million in the offseason, a deal many considered an insane bargain for Golden State, Cousins rehabbed his tore Achilles’ tendon. Now, it’s beginning to look like he’ll have another long road to recovery ahead of him.
Here’s how it happened.
Cousins is scheduled for an MRI later today which should help to fully diagnose the big man. However, like many outlets have reported, the short-term outlook on Cousins is not good. Even Kerr said that he’d be out a while and that it’s a significant injury.
This comes just as Cousins was starting to find his groove too.
After missing the first 45 games of the season, Cousins took time to get acclimated to the NBA speed again.
Not too long after, Cousins put up monster stat lines like his 28-point, 13-rebound performance that helped the Dubs down Denver in the Mile High City. Now, after a nine-point Game 1 and only four minutes in Game 2, Cousins may not get another chance to take the court.
For Golden State, this shouldn’t be the end of the world though. They were -18 through the two games with Cousins on the court. He’s not the star that’s gotten them to the No. 1 seed. He’s not Stephen Curry. While Cousins is impossible to replace, the Warriors’ defense should become immensely better in his absence.
That said, after allowing the biggest comeback in NBA history in Game 2, the Warriors will have to rebound for two straight in LA.
