No Golden State Warriors appeared on Time Magazine’s most influential people list.

The Golden State Warriors have two iconic NBA superstars on their team; however, neither Stephen Curry or Kevin Durant graced Time Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People. LeBron James was the NBA’s only nomination.

Yes, LeBron James is easily the most influential player in the NBA. But, Kevin Durant certainly isn’t far behind.

Durant, like James, has done his fair share of giving back, opening The Kevin Durant Charity Foundation, an organization with a mission aimed to “enrich the lives of at-risk youth from low-income backgrounds through educational, athletic and social programs.”

On top of the Foundation which is centered in Washington D.C., the area Durant grew up in, the four-time NBA scoring champion and former MVP has also opened an after-school center in Maryland which included a personal 10-year, $10-million committed which Durant called “a dream come true.”

This is the type of giving back the community needs from these iconic players.

People noticed Durant’s efforts to give back. In 2018, he was selected as ESPN’s Humanitarian of the Year and also awarded with the NBA Community Assist Award.

This isn’t an article to bash Time for not including Durant on their list. It is an article to shine a light on the fact that, although Durant wasn’t nominated, his giving and what he does for the community and those around him does have an impact.

He is influential.

While his on-court performance has won him the bulk of his fame and money, at the end of the day, most players agree that’s basketball is just a game. However, Durant has taken what he’s been awarded by that game and used it to transform the lives of thousands.

This is the off-court leadership that people should want to follow. His impact in the community shows us who Durant is as a person, and although he may not be ranked in the top 100, he’s certainly one of the league’s most influential talents.
