Per a recent report, the Golden State Warriors are optimistic All-Star guard Klay Thompson will play in Game 1.
The Golden State Warriors, fresh off eliminating the Los Angeles Clippers in six games Friday night face the Houston Rockets Sunday afternoon in round two. However, the Warriors are facing several injuries, including Klay Thompson.
At some point during game six Friday night, Thompson injured his ankle. He did have an MRI on his ankle Sunday per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. That report came back clean.
Then, in another tweet, Wojnarowski said the team is optimistic Thompson will play in game one versus the Rockets, but there are bigger questions in regard to his mobility on the right ankle.
With this in mind, one has to wonder how bad the ankle actually is, especially if the team is worried about mobility issues on that right ankle. The Rockets and Warriors don’t tipoff until 3:30 p.m. Eastern, so we most likely won’t hear anything on if Thompson will play until closer to tipoff.
If this was a regular season game, the Warriors would more than likely sit out Thompson for this game and the next couple of games. But, with this being the playoffs, it will be interesting to see how cautious they are with Thompson and his right ankle.
Stephen Curry also injured his ankle, but there has been no update on him as of yet. Last we heard, both Curry and Thompson were questionable to play.
Per a more recent update, Stephen Curry will play. That’s good to see, but in order to be at full strength, the Warriors will need their trio of All-Stars to play. Per ESPN’s Nick Friedell, Thompson will be a game-time decision.
Curry averaged 24.7 points per game in the first round while Thompson was almost solely responsible for the team’s Game 4 victory. These two, along with Kevin Durant, are the crux of this team and must play in order for the Dubs to stand a chance.
