Warriors Report: DeMarcus Cousins could return if Dubs make NBA Finals
Former All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins is planning to return if the Golden State Warriors make a deep run in the 2019 NBA playoffs.
The Golden State Warriors may get DeMarcus Cousins back if they advance past the Houston Rockets and then take down either the Nuggets or Blazers. They’d then be in the NBA Finals for a fifth consecutive season.
According to ESPN’s Marc Spears, Cousins was confident he would return immediately after finding out the severity of his quad injury.
"“I was confident from the beginning once they told me the severity of it,” Cousins said. “Talking to the doctors helped me understand the injury a little more. I started analyzing things and playing it out in my head. I’m going to take it day by day and work my ass off like I always do…"
This is great to hear from Cousins. Injuries take a toll on players, and severe injuries are hard to continually come back from. That said, hearing Cousins is continuing to work hard is fantastic for Golden State.
If you remember, Cousins went down early in Game 2 against the LA Clippers. This was Cousins second postseason game of his career, and being such a dominant big man, it’s sad to see him not getting to shine on the league’s brightest stage.
What Cousins was diagnosed with is a partially torn quad. This is not an injury Cousins can rush back from, but the severity of it is in his favor. This is the second straight season in which Cousins had an injury keep him out several weeks.
After getting his feet under him, Cousins put together a few monster games for the Warriors including a 27 point, seven rebound and eight assist performance in Golden State’s only regular-season win over Houston. Cousins also posted 28 against Denver in the Mile High.
Overall, the Warriors would welcome a DeMarcus Cousins return. Fans and players alike would enjoy seeing the gritty big man finally win a championship.
