DeMarcus Cousins

The Golden State Warriors were NOT expecting 25+ minutes from DeMarcus Cousins. But, with Looney going out with a chest contusion and Durant still sidelined, they were forced to put Boogie in what might’ve been unfamiliar waters.

The last time Boogie came back off a major injury he was able to play just 10-20 minutes for numerous games to get his strength up. However, in Game 2, he had to push himself on both the offensive and defensive end.

More from Blue Man Hoop

“When that ball goes up, I’m going to leave it all between the lines,” Cousins said following the game. “Guys have stepped up in other guys absence. That being said, strength in numbers.”

Yes sir, strength in numbers, the motto behind the Warriors. Cousins exemplified that on Sunday, and he rewarded Steve Kerr for putting him in that position. The big man ended the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Let’s also add in that Cousins was a +12 in 28 minutes of action. Cousins dished out a vital six assists and tacked on two blocks as well. Although he did commit five fouls, Cousins’ lateral movement and quickness against guards was crucial throughout the game.

A terrific all-around performance, Cousins, who played under 15 minutes in Game 1, thrived, taking over as the playmaking frontcourt member late in the game. The only knock on Cousins game was that he ended 3-for-8 from the field.

Expect Cousins to play a large role in Game 3 and the rest of the 2019 NBA Finals.
