The Golden State Warriors, after having a solid first-half lead, lost Game 4 and will now face an almost insurmountable 3-1 deficit.

I was joking earlier that the Golden State Warriors merely allowed the Raptors to win three of the first four so they could wipe the slate clean of the 3-1 comeback jokes for good if they made their own 3-1 comeback.

Absolutely not true, the Warriors now have a chance to make that scenario play out in the 2019 NBA Finals. While they don’t want to admit it, much of this series changed late in the Western Conference semifinals when Durant went down with a mild calf strain.

The Warriors were able to fight past the Trail Blazers, but the Blazers did march out the gate with a ten-point first-half lead in numerous games. That said, this team felt unstoppable until the Finals, where they’ve been outplayed, outhustled and outcoached.

However, the player’s morale isn’t low. They’re seeking history. They know what it’s like to be on the top side of the 3-1 deficit and see everything go as poorly as possible. They want to make their former shortcomings their new reality.

Or, at least both Curry and Green have that mindset as the Dubs will enter Game 5 in a raucous Scotiabank Arena on Monday. Following their double-digit Game 4 loss, they shared their thoughts about going down 3-1 with NBA TV.

"“I been on the wrong side of 3-1 before, so why not make our own history?"

He knows the odds aren’t in their favor, but he’s Draymond Green. He knows what this team is capable of, and he’s ready to fight till the last second to make the ultra-rare three-peat a reality. However, overall, he hasn’t played well, and that’ll have to change.

That said, Green isn’t the only one that commented on what going down 3-1 might mean. Here’s the video, via NBA TV, of Curry’s postgame press conference, saying “It’s not over.”

Klay Thompson was the hero of Game 4, and it still wasn’t enough. Curry was the hero of Game 3, and it still wasn’t enough. Without an 18-0 run in Game 2, they may be headed home for the offseason right now.

Do they have enough? Kevin Durant will be a huge part of whether or not Golden State can overcome a 3-1 deficit, but the short answer is yes.

They do have enough, but whether or not they can string their potential together for 48 minutes three straight times is still up in the air.
