Klay Thompson, if the Golden State Warriors offer him the max like they plan to do, will ‘no question’ sign long-term with the Dubs.

While Golden State Warriors five-time All-Star Klay Thompson didn’t utter these words himself, but per a recent from the SF Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau, Thompson’s dad, Mychal, spoke for his son on the matter.

He says that now, but if the Warriors don’t end up giving Thompson a max contract, everything will change. However, that’s very unlikely. The Warriors love Thompson and their fans reciprocate that.

Thompson will be out most of next season after tearing his ACL in Game 6, ultimately allowing the Raptors to come back and claim the NBA throne. It took both Durant and Thompson being out for there to seal the deal, but that is the way it goes in the NBA.

Unlike Durant, Thompson is expected to return next season. The ACL recovery is about an eight-month process while Durant’s ruptured Achilles, which he tore in Game 5 and has since had surgery on, is reportedly going to keep him out all of next season.

The Warriors are expected to give both a max.

While this isn’t shocking, it will force Golden State well into the luxury tax. For owner Joe Lacob, who is valued at $3 billion, an expensive luxury tax may not be an issue given the new $2+ billion arena they just built in downtown San Fran.

That said, Lacob may be in the mindset that to earn a lot you have to spend a lot. This Warriors team, throughout their five-year dynasty that’ll hopefully continue well into the future, have spent to keep themselves competitive.

Now, they might have to take their budge to the next level.

For Thompson, his contract is almost guaranteed and he’ll likely return. We don’t quite know about Kevin Durant, given the fact that he’s still mulling over his offer and looking for what he will be offered elsewhere.
