Forfeits next year

It’s strong terminology to say the Warriors would forfeit their chance at the title next season, but it’s be rough to go through the West without Kevin Durant. It would’ve been a grind to get out of the first round without his scoring this postseason.

If they were to bring back both KD and Thompson, they’d be wasting a year of Steph and Dray’s prime to keep Durant. Although not near as impactful, they could use the money to sign a mid-level forward like Marcus Morris and strengthen their bench.

The Warriors may have an even worse bench this upcoming season. They could use lose DeMarcus Cousins and Kevon Looney in free agency while retaining both Durant and Thompson. To be fair, that’s if they even make the playoffs.

The West is growing more and more competitive. Teams like Los Angeles will be contending and Sacramento is bound to improve. Combine that with the fact that Klay will be out till at least the All-Star break, and it’s not a promising look for Golden State.
