The Golden State Warriors have a place for DeMarcus Cousins, and Steve Kerr could “absolutely foresee” him returning to run it back.

There’s no doubt about it; the Golden State Warriors need DeMarcus Cousins to return. While the Dubs could use a player like Seth Curry or Rudy Gay, if they can re-sign Cousins for the mid-level exception, it’d be a deal they have to do.

Steve Kerr is confident that if Cousins wants to return that Golden State will have a spot on the roster for him.

Per ESPN, Steve Kerr said that, “I could absolutely foresee a place for DeMarcus here if he wanted to come back. It’s just a question of what are his goals? What’s out there for him?”

It’s important to know that Kerr wants Boogie to return. His days in Golden State were far from the magical ride that everyone thought it would’ve been when he originally signed in the 2018 offseason.

In his first season with the Warriors, Cousins played just 30 games due to his ruptured Achilles which he sustained late in the 2017-2018 season against Houston. At the time he was playing for New Orleans. He then saw his max-contract hopes shattered.

Cousins came to Golden State knowing he wouldn’t have to be the man. While he did average over 16 points per game in those 30 games, Cousins wasn’t the absolute monster that many thought he’d return to become.

It’s unlikely that Golden State’s MLE, which will be just over $5 million, will be the best offer on the table for Cousins.

If JR Smith can make eight figures, then so can DeMarcus Cousins. The Warriors will have to bank on their championship pedigree and past success to keep Cousins in the Bay Area. But, it could take more than that. If it does, the Warriors will have nothing to bargain with.

Cousins knows what the Bay can give him. And, he’ll likely be void of solid offers with contenders that outdo the Dubs. Teams like LA and New York don’t want Boogie. They want the big-time stars, but if they strike out on those, Boogie might be the best they get.
