Golden State Warriors: 25% Chance

While many had assumed the Golden State Warriors were locked to win the title with or without Kevin Durant, the 2019 NBA Finals has completely flipped this narrative.

Once the Toronto Raptors began dominating the Warriors it became clear that Durant is far more important than we ever realized. The Warriors had come to rely on his consistent scoring and defensive production. Due to his absence, the Raps jumped out to a 3-1 lead.

This sense of urgency, of course, led to KD returning before he was fully ready and rupturing his Achilles. While this is a devastating injury, it does give us some insight into Durant’s thought process.

If KD was planning on leaving the Dubs anyways, would he really risk further injury facing a 3-1 deficit? I think it is unlikely he would lay it all out on the floor for a franchise he is preparing a departure from.

The Warriors should offer KD the max and he has every reason to accept it. The Dubs truly need Durant to win and he might need them just as badly. This is the best place for Durant to continue chasing titles and it is his most likely landing spot this summer.
