1. Los Angeles Lakers

In shocking fashion, the Los Angeles Lakers have managed to acquire not only one but two of the five best players in the league in back-to-back offseasons. The signing of LeBron James in the 2018 Summer shook the NBA and their most recent trade that brought Anthony Davis to LA is enough to put the Lakers on the map as legit contenders.

James has a lot to prove. In fact, he might have more to prove in his 18th season than any other player in NBA history has ever had to do. Despite being a wildly accomplished player and all-time great, James has a bit more to do before claiming the crown of “GOAT” before it’s all said and done. Winning one more championship might be enough to make even the biggest of LeBron haters accept his place in history.

The acquisition of Davis should help. Last season, Davis averaged 25.9 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. He was a beast on both ends of the floor and should instantly improve this Lakers roster.

Sadly, the Lakers roster becomes very thin after James, Davis and Kyle Kuzma. This is why bringing in someone such as Thompson is so important. A championship season takes more than two players. The Lakers have to land a third star or at the very least find some suitable role players.

If Thompson does decide to join the Lakers, he would fit right in with the rest of the lineup. He might even receive more touches than he did previously with the Warriors. The Lakers can’t offer him the max, but they can offer more than a few other teams on this list. If any team is going to snatch Thompson away from the Dubs, it would be the Lakers.
