The Golden State Warriors selected University of Michigan forward Jordan Poole with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

We did not see this one coming. The Golden State Warriors passed one Bol Bol and Kevin Porter Jr. to snag Jordan Poole, a player CBS Sports ranked No. 58 in their final mock draft. Poole left the University of Michigan after his sophomore season.

That being said, Poole is an elite shooter and is drawing NBA comparisons to Nick Young.

Poole will strengthen the Warriors backcourt depth, a priority for them in the NBA Draft. He has the potential to be one of the league’s better shooters. He shot 37% both his freshman and sophomore season, making 2.0 his final collegiate year.

Here’s what CBS Sports said on the 6-foot-5 shooting guard.

"Poole made a sophomore leap but still has plenty to show. He’s an active offensive player who could give the Pels an off-ball weapon as a scorer, cutter and elite spot-up threat."

Averaging 12.8 points per game his sophomore season, Poole’s most memorable moment may’ve come during his freshman season when he knocked down a DEEP game-winning shot in the NCAA tournament.

His sophomore season, Poole’s Wolverines were disappointing in the tournament, and against one of the best defenses in the country, Poole, like the rest of his teammates, struggled. However, his shots, because of the attention drawn to Stephen Curry should get a great looks his first year.

This is the perfect place for Poole, and the Dubs went for a shooter this time. Last season, the Warriors drafted Jacob Evans III, a player that isn’t known for his offensive aptitude. That hasn’t worked out like Golden State had imagined, so they switched it up.

Poole has quite a bit still to learn, but as long as he’s moldable, his talent should be able to transition well to the next level.

That said, this pick, while shocking, should work in Golden State’s benefit well into the future.
